A Poem: Symphonic Ether

Silent, an atmospheric blanket descends, gray and languishing.
Drooping condensation presses each branch and bud,
Birdsong sostenuto like invisible strings caught in the air.
I feel my lungs compressed in this damp cloak.
Through sodden muck, my footfalls leave spongy hollows
And weeping rivulets forge a slimy path.
Beads patter from the canopy, tapping rhythms,
My exhalations like a cymbal as I plod upward.
Sudden caesura, an azure aperture sears the vapor
And white brilliance perforates the silver specter.
Sunbeams electrify my sagging soul,
Their radiant refraction scatters my moping mien.
Eyes aloft, joy surges and evaporates cruel angst
In crescendo, I summit another day in search of meaning.
